Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 40 monarchs, and was where The Late Queen spent many of her private weekends. Visitors can explore the State apartments, that host official visits by Heads of State, and the richly decorated apartments of George IV. St George’s Chapel is also within the grounds, and regularly plays a part in many Royal Family and state occasions. Changing of the Guard takes place on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is open to visitors throughout the year and is an 8 mile drive from the Royal Foresters.

 
 

Magna Carta memorial

Runnymede is the site famous for of the sealing of the Magna Carta 800 years ago by King John. Seen as the first step towards modern democracy, as well as the monument to Magna Carta, there are also memorials to JFK and the Allied Air Forces of the Second World War. A 20 minute drive from the Royal Foresters.

 
 

Windsor Great Park

The Royal connection to the Great Park is very apparent - from William I using the landscape as a hunting ground a thousand years ago, to the original planting of the Long Walk by Charles II and Queen Victoria entertaining on the shores of Virginia Water. This 4,800 acre park was also under the stewardship of H.R.H the Duke of Edinburgh as Ranger of the Great Park for nearly 70 years. The park houses Royal residences, formal gardens and trees that have stood for over 1,000 years. A 6 mile drive from the Royal Foresters.
